Another Layout

Since I was home with Abby today, I worked on another layout. What got me started was I FINALLY put together Abby's 8 X 8 album of all the pages I ever did of her. I printed them out months ago, and they just sat there gathering dust. So we sat together at the dining room table and I cut each one out of the 8X10 sheet and put them into her book. She kept asking to see the Santa one from 2007, I guess that was her favourite. I made some notes on which months I was short some layouts and one of them was September 2008.

I have many more holes, but I'm not going to stress myself out in trying to fill them all at once. One page at a time!

We are all feeling much better, now my fingers are crossed for Gillian not to get sick! Back to work tomorrow for me!

A day at home

A completely sleepless night, and I mean completely sleepless (Gillian cried off and on from 10-2 approx., then I was too hungry to sleep so I ate from 2- 2:30, then Abby came into our room at 3:30) coupled with a huge snowstorm (20 cm) and bus strike (chaos on a sunny day) meant: I was staying home today. The kids went to daycare at 8:00 and I slept from 8-12 and I had to force myself out of bed at noon. I could have stayed in bed all day, but it would have meant not sleeping tonight.

In the afternoon I decided to scrap. Something I haven't done in a while, so it was fun. I did these 4 pages:

Project 365 is to take a photo a day for 365 days. My friend Jen is doing it, many girls at DD are doing it, completing a layout a week, so I thought I would give it a go. I figured with taking the photography class, what better way to learn my camera than lugging it around with me everywhere and taking a photo a day. I give myself a couple weeks until I start falling off! :)

And this one was just for fun:

The Dentist and Tuesday Scraps

The snow was crazy today!! And thus the traffic was even more crazy! I had to take both girls to the dentist this morning, and it was to be Abby's first time. I was pretty nervous about taking her because I thought she would be scared and not want to open her mouth, being 3 and all that isn't uncommon. Eric's Dad joined me to help take care of Abby when Gillian was being checked and vice versa. We left around 9:00 am and got there at 10:25 - almost an hour and half for a normally 40 min drive. I was actually quite shocked that we got there on time, as were the dentist's office, so they put us through right away to try and stay on schedule.

We are lucky to be able to go to a Paediatric Dentist specialist, because of Gillian's wonky teeth, and lucky because he was willing to see both girls. Gillian is doing well, her teeth are progressing as to be expected, the front teeth haven't come down much but things go pretty slowly in her mouth. So all was good on her side. As for Abby - she was amazing! And that had a lot to do with the fabulous staff and the way they handled a new, 3 year old, patient! The hygienist brought her in and she slowly showed her how the chair moves around, giving her "rides", then she got to choose a funky pair of sunglasses to wear to keep the bright light out of her eyes, then showed her the little tiny mirror and let her play with it and stick it in her mouth, let her feel the pointy "teeth counter", gave her a cute pink (of course!!) mirror to hold while she opened her mouth, and had her teeth counted. I have been talking up the dentist for a long time now, practicing with Abby to open her mouth when asked and say AH! So when it came to doing it, she practically had her mouth before she even sat down! It was so cute. I could tell she was a little nervous, but was being really brave, so the hygienist decided to show her the polishing stuff. She let Abby choose a flavour (cherry), then let her feel the polishing brush while spinning with her finger, then best part of it all, let her play with the water squirting thing and the suction instrument. She would squirt a bit in a little cup, then let Abby suck it up. When she was ok with that she let Abby put it in her mouth to try. Then she polished up her teeth and actually got to do each one.

After she was done the Dentist came over to check her out, measured her Dyastima (3), and then told Abby he was going to put the tiny mirror in her mouth to check things out. Abby was so cool, calm and collected that she actually said to him, "Oh, give it to me, I can do that". Too funny! So, all in all, her teeth are healthy, he noted the space between her teeth (dyastima) and the large freneum ligament, which Gillian also has, and when they are both around 5 they will determine if it needs cutting. I see braces in our future.... better start saving.

Did a couple quick pages tonight:

What's in store for tomorrow you ask: Transit strike in Ottawa (fingers crossed they don't), more snow and freezing rain, and a trip to CHEO for Gillian's Ambliopia check up.

Fall, Fall and Another Fall Layout!

Can you tell I LOVE this time of year!!
After Gillian woke up yesterday, we had a nice visit with my parents who returned home from France this weekend. After they left I went for a short walk with Gillian, who was is pretty good spirits after the morning's events. She was a little quiet, but generally in a good mood! It was a beautiful day so I couldn't resist going for a walk.

I also completed this layout yesterday:

It's so beautiful, I keep trying to capture the colours of the leaves, rather unsuccessfully!! I need a wide angle lens. Pumpkin shots are from the weekend.

These ones I just took moments ago:

I must say, looking back at the photos, I'm a little embarassed at home much PINK there is when my kids are photographed... (note to self - buy LESS pink!)

Big day tomorrow...

It's Gillian's extraction day tomorrow. The appointment is at 9 am, but we have to be there for 8 am to give her the "magic juice" which will attempt to put her to sleep. The Dr said it works 50% of the time, as their metabolism is so high that it simply burns it off before it can totally put them to sleep. And considering she won't be able to eat anything before 5 am, she will probably burn through it quite fast. Once she is groggy enough, they will wrap her up in a papoose, so she can't move, then freeze her and pull out the two teeth. (yikes I'm getting dizzy just thinking of it). The hope is that she won't remember a thing in a few days, like she had amnesia. That would be great, because if she doesn't forget, I don't want to have to be the parent who has to bring her back to the dentist for a regular check up...

I finally did another page, it's been ages! Here it is, I used the photos from the weekend of the girls in the leaves:

I hope I can sleep tonight! I'll report on the procedure tomorrow... stay tuned!

Quiet Sunday

We are spending a quiet Sunday at home since yesterday was go-go-go! The girls are quite tired, but in pretty good spirits. They spent the morning playing, which gave me some time to scrap a couple of pages:

This afternoon, I have to pack because I'm off to Houston, TX tomorrow. It's a quick trip, but should be neat to be in Texas, can't wait to hear all those southern accents!!

As promised some shots from the party yesterday:

The girls get prime spots at the snack table.

The gang eat supper.

I did a page!!

It's been literally weeks since I've created a scrapbook page. I'm not sure what was going on, I guess the new scanner, and going through my restoration book has had me focusing on other things. And of course work gets in the way too!!

This is a photo I took on Canada day, I posted the photo already, but here is the page to go with it:

Today was a good day. In the morning we did some errands. I really have to get Gillian some shoes. You may or may not have noticed that every photo of her, she is bare foot! That is because she has no shoes. I do have old ones from Abby, but the velcro is not that strong and they keep falling off. But the trip to the shoe store ended up being a $400 trip to Costco, so we were too tired to bother shoe shopping after. I'll just stick her in Abby's old shoes and be done with it. If they fall off, they'll fall off. Actually it should be better now that she is walking more, they always fell off while crawling.

In the afternoon we went to our friends cottage just north of our place for a swim, boating and dinner. Eric had a good time tubing and water skiing in the lake, and I did a little tour with their kayak (I really would LOVE a kayak!!, but that will have to wait I think..) We had dinner then came home. I thought for sure that the girls would just pass out in the car as soon as we got going, but no, Abby sang songs the whole way home - right now the songs of choice are Row Row Row your boat (with all the words jumbled and verses missing) and the ABC song, with half the alphabet missing. Gillian was up singing along side of her, which was really cute!

Now it's time for bed, since it's a work day tomorrow! One more week until Maine!
