Chatty Gillian

When Abby was still a baby she used to chat away, babbling non-stop in her own language, and as she grew older she started making more and more sense. Today she is a "good talker" as she likes to say, and wants to say so much at once she is actually starting to stutter.
Well, it's starting to look like Gillian is growing to be just like her big sister. She just talks and talks and talks, non-stop at times (in her own language of course) saying some pretty important things - I'm sure. She will grab a book and start to "read" from it, pointing to the pictures and babbling. This evening, I was reading her a book before bedtime and I realized that she was starting to make a little bit of sense. Well, only to her mother, I'm sure. But I was able to pick up what she was trying to say on two occasions. She would see a picture of a dog and amongst all the babbling, I'd hear "woof, woof" and when I pointed out the banana out came "nana". Everything else that has to do with food is "num-num" and when she sees her bottle of milk there she will start saying "menum-menum" while practically smacking her lips. I just find it so amazing to watch this little person growing and developing and I keep thinking about how we ALL went through that, and that the whole world was such a mystery at one point. And how we got such pleasure from doing such little things like...... STANDING ON TABLES!!!

Teeth and Tired

I went to the dentist yesterday with Gillian. You may be thinking to yourself that she is too young to be seeing a dentist at 14 months, but I had a suspicion that things weren't right in her mouth. She got her teeth in all the wrong order after the first two bottom teeth pushed through at 7 months. After the first two bottom the top two front teeth are supposed to come, but in Gillian's case her eye teeth pushed through (or what I think are her eye teeth). Next came the molars (which usually come at a year), and then came the front teeth, the bottom eye teeth and her canines - yes all at the same time! while the rest of her teeth continued to grow, her two front teeth pushed through the skin and then basically stopped growing for a couple of months, and that is where the worrying started. Then my friend came over for dinner with her son and she mentioned that he would probably have to have his Frenulum on his upper lip snipped, because it was extending too far down and would eventually cause him to have a gap in his front teeth. So it made me thing about Gillian and her problems and decided to call the dentist the next day.

I went and it wasn't great news. The frenum is a problem, but it's not what is causing her front teeth not to grow. Not only are they not growing, when you pull her gums back you can see two teeth way up in her gums starting to push through, defintely not in the right place. He thought that perhaps there is some serious crowding going on, she has a bad over bite (not sure how he saw that...) and that her two bottom teeth are resting directly on the top teeth, further preventing them from advancing. He is going to give me a referal to a pediatric ortho. for a consultation, but basically said that there isn't much that can be done at this stage, because she is so young. But I look forward to what the pediatric ortho will say... so stay tuned!

Despite her teeth, she is still beautiful to me!!

Other than that craziness, an aquantance of Eric's passed away a couple of days ago. He was in a car crash around the same time that Gillian was born (He made the unfortunate choice to drive home drunk and drove off the road), which left him in a semi-comatose state, and after 15 months of fighting, I guess he lost the fight. I only met him a couple of times, but its really is a sad story and I feel for his parents.

So needless to say this week has left us very tired and so we are looking forward to a nice weekend, a fire in our outdoor fire pit, and good quality family time! Hope you all have that too!

I did a page!!

It's been literally weeks since I've created a scrapbook page. I'm not sure what was going on, I guess the new scanner, and going through my restoration book has had me focusing on other things. And of course work gets in the way too!!

This is a photo I took on Canada day, I posted the photo already, but here is the page to go with it:

Today was a good day. In the morning we did some errands. I really have to get Gillian some shoes. You may or may not have noticed that every photo of her, she is bare foot! That is because she has no shoes. I do have old ones from Abby, but the velcro is not that strong and they keep falling off. But the trip to the shoe store ended up being a $400 trip to Costco, so we were too tired to bother shoe shopping after. I'll just stick her in Abby's old shoes and be done with it. If they fall off, they'll fall off. Actually it should be better now that she is walking more, they always fell off while crawling.

In the afternoon we went to our friends cottage just north of our place for a swim, boating and dinner. Eric had a good time tubing and water skiing in the lake, and I did a little tour with their kayak (I really would LOVE a kayak!!, but that will have to wait I think..) We had dinner then came home. I thought for sure that the girls would just pass out in the car as soon as we got going, but no, Abby sang songs the whole way home - right now the songs of choice are Row Row Row your boat (with all the words jumbled and verses missing) and the ABC song, with half the alphabet missing. Gillian was up singing along side of her, which was really cute!

Now it's time for bed, since it's a work day tomorrow! One more week until Maine!
